The National Petroleum Authority, NPA, Staff Welfare Association on Boxing Day, donated food items and an undisclosed amount of money to inmates of Village of Hope, an orphanage at Gomoa Fetteh in the Central Region,  as part of the festive season.

The items including bags of rice, boxes of milk and detergents, are part of the workers' contribution to the home, especially at a time of merrymaking.

Chairman of the Association Joseph Awan told newsmen they recognize the hard work operators of the home are putting in to shape the future of the children, most of whom were rescued from the hands of human traffickers at the Volta Lake.

He was optimistic the items would be put to good use and expresses the Authority's desire to do the best it can to ensure the children adequate support and care.

An official from the centre in charge of the orphanage Kweku Sarkodie, who received the items on behalf of the centre, assured the NPA the students would be given the adequate support to ensure they become good citizens.

Kweku Sarkodie said financing and feeding have been the major problem facing the orphanage and the support from NPA will help the house.

According to him, most of the students are educated to the level of University and this year alone, 8 of their students graduated from the University with one of them getting First Class Honours.

The centre was established almost 22 years ago by the church of Christ and has been working with the Department of Social Welfare, to get inmates to the centre.

Parents recruited to cater for the children are properly vetted before being finally engaged at the centre.
