General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketia has accused the NPP government of covering up major corrupt activities instead of dealing with them.

Assessing the performance of the Akufo-Addo government after its first year, the NDC secretary stated that although they had attempted to achieve a few of their goals, they have performed rather poorly in terms of Governance, as well as maintaining peace and security.

He further stated that in terms of fighting corruption, the current government has performed poorly.

“There have been big cases of corruption and all the attempted responses by the NPP has been a cover-up.” he said.

He argued that “We have seen the allegations of payment of huge sums to sit next to the president and the way the investigations were being carried out, there were some leaked footages which were never investigated. We only heard of the promotion of the Officer who is alleged to have stated that their duty as police officers was to ensure that government doesn’t look bad.”

In related development, research fellow at CDD Ghana, Kwadwo Asante commended government for implementing the Free SHS policy but criticized them for doing very little to punish vigilantism.

Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo recently re-launche Operation Calm life, a joint military and police operation aimed at combating crime and maintaining peace, security and stability, thus dealing with the emerging issues of vigilantism, the proliferation of light weapons, the menace of land guards and the vexed one on Fulani herdsmen.
