Acting Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority NPA Alhassan Tampuli says it is imperative for the regulation of offspec products in the market, because of the dangerous nature of it.

The authority was one of the state agencies who spoke publicly against the irregular handling of the contaminated fuel sold to two companies by BOST, which has become a subject of controversy, leading to calls for the MD, alfred Obeng Boateng, to be fired.

Last week the energy ministry issued aspects of a report by the BNI and National security exonerating the MD. But the decision further plunged the issue into confusion when questions were raised about the propriety of the investigations. Pressure group Occupy Ghana for example has questioned the relevance of the report at a time when other investigations by the energy ministry was about starting work. Speaking on JoyFm's newdfiles analysis program, Mr. Tambuli says contaminated fuel are more dangerous than petrol or diesel and its handling requires that it is properly regulated to ensure those expected to handle it do so with circumspection.

" it is dangerous if you get any of this very product into your car, it can be extremely harmful to your car than a bad petrol or diesel."

Though he concede there's no Legislative Instrument (LI) to cover the trading of offspec products in the country, it is important for those in the industry to get the required documents covering them to ensure they do the right thing. Mr Tambuli also revealed Movinpina and other companies trading in the sector will have their licenses issued to them this week. Former Deputy Minister of Energy John jinapor who was also a guest on the show, said government should assure the public no offspec product will be sold to unsuspecting consumers in the open market.
