Despite the hustle Ghanaians went through to get captured in the National Identification System, only half of the total number of cards printed have been distributed.

According to the  Auditor-General's for 2014, about 1.5 million National Identification Cards that have the particulars of registered persons still remain in the custody of the National Identification Authority (NIA).

The cards printed in 2008, were expected to have been distributed to Ghanaians for national identification purposes.

A total of about 3million Cards were printed for distribution but the distribution exercise was halted due to lack of funding for the NIA.

The inability of the Authority to distribute the Cards, according to the Report, has defeated the purpose for which the Cards were printed.
