Parliament charges Daily Graphic reporter for contempt

Parliament has charged Daily Graphic reporter, Mark-Anthony Vinorkor for contempt.

He, on July 15, was banned from reporting on Parliamentary proceedings for a misleading reportage on the CI 94 which takes care of the upcoming elections.

Vinorkor had reported in the national daily that an earlier CI 94 laid before the House had been withdrawn and a new one re-laid. and that a new clause was introduced in article 44 of the CI 94 which takes care of punishment of potential and existing electoral officers.

His report also stated that a new clause was introduced in article 44 of the CI 94 which takes care of punishment of potential and existing electoral officers and that offenders will be sanctioned to a spot fine of 500 penalty units and or two years imprisonment, and may subsequently not be permitted to take part in any elections-related activities for five years.

But Parliament described Vinokor’s report as inaccurate and hauled him before its Privileges Committee where he reportedly rendered an unqualified.

But despite the apology to  the committee, a contempt charge has been brought against him meaning, he will go through the same processes Blakk Rasta was subjected to and appear before the Bar of the House for sanctions where he is expected to render an unqualified apology to the House and purge himself of the contempt charge.

His employers, Graphic Communications Group Limited will also be made to render an unqualified apology to the House and print three apologies in their print and electronic media at the paper's cost, a report by Kobby Gomez on Starr FM stated.
