Former president John Dramani Mahama once again displayed his romantic side by celebrating his wife, Lordina Mahama, on Wednesday on the occasion of International Women's Day.

Mahama bought the former first lady a special birthday cake, a hand bag and flowers.

He then presented the gifts to her in the presence of other members of the family.

Sharing the photos on Twitter, the former president said: "Today is a special day for all women. A special handbag cake and flowers for a great mother and wife!".

The gifts were also meant to mark Lordina's 56th birthday, which fell on March 6.

Earlier on Wednesday, Mahama called on member of the public to reflect on the toils of Ghanaian women on the occasion of International Women's Day.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Mahama said mothers, sisters and wives were toiling hard in the country and ought to be recognised

"Let's dedicate today to reflect on the toils of our mothers, sisters and wives. And let's commit to making the world a better place for all girls and women," he said.

The International Women's Day, originally called International Working Women's Day, is celebrated on March 8 every year. It commemorates the struggle for women's rights.
