Starting from today [Monday], February 27, the power supply situation in the country will return to normal, the Ministry of Energy has assured.

This follows the completion of maintenance works on the Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC) and also the connection of the gas supply system from the TEN fields to the Atuabo processing plant.

The power supply situation in the country has worsened in the last few weeks with many fearing a return of 'dumsor', as the country's power crises has come to be known.

But according to a statement from the Ministry signed by its Communication Director, King A. Wellington, the recent situation was not a return to dumsor but were due to operational difficulties being experienced Tullow Oil which necessitated an extension of the time needed to complete the works.

"With the tie-in operation successfully completed, and coupled with the measures we put in place, the situation will normalize from 27th February 2017", his statement read.

He further stated that "though government was determined to the challenges of 'dumsor', we will continue to face an occasional temporary setback until we move to a more sustainable state of uniterrupted power supply".

"Goverment will therefore give customers regular operational updates of the power situation to ensure transparency as well as provide assurances of how effectively we are addressing the problems in the sector", the statement added.
