The Public Relation Officer of  Ghana Police Service, Superintendent Cephas Arthur has said irrespective of the fact that a little above 5,000 hotspots have been recognized ahead of the December polls, all polling stations will be treated as possible violent zones.

In an interview with Abusua FM, Superintendent Cephas Arthur emphasized that the widespread of Small Arms in the confines of Ghana, political hooliganism across the regions and Chieftaincy clashes have been identified as easy causes for violence.

“The proliferation of illicit arms in the country, the existence of numerous land and Chieftaincy disputes, the prevalence of terror activities in some neighbouring countries of our region all serve as triggers for violence and therefore pose real threats to the 2016 general elections,” Superintendent Cephas Arthur disclosed

He added that “the EC has indicated that 81 out of the 275 constituencies in Ghana are potential hotspots. However, the Ghana Police Service has identified over five thousand polling stations as potential hotspots.”

He said it was against this background, that the National Election Security Architecture was activated earlier this year to plan for the 2016 general elections in respect of security concerns which the Police service has mapped out strategies for.
