Former morning show host of the Joy FM and NPP’s parliamentary candidate for Ofuase Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has posited that Ghana’s economy needs to be moved from a post factor reactionary to a planned, local content driven one.

Speaking to Bernard Avle on the Citi Breakfast Show, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah stated there is need to reserve and advance part of the economy for indigenes despite the lure of globalization.

“The poultry industry is one critical area which employs many people and requires many inputs but the quantum of inputs, feed and other items imported for the production process is largely managed by non-Ghanaians which deprives locals from making profits.”

According to the media man who is seeking to serve his fellow constituents, although being on the New Patriotic Party’s ticket means the campaign will be based on the achievements of ex-president Kufuor, it is important for people to know that he opposed Ghana Telecom’s sale to Vodafone done in the Kufuor regime.

He added the situation where buildings are popping up in the airport enclave but hardly owned by Ghanaians is worrying adding “there is need for capacity building of our people to be competitive. I do agree some investments come from non-Ghanaians therefore such sources demand their nationals undertake a large component of the work such as the Bui Dam Project but those are far and few.

“There is need for a deliberate policy to ensure Ghanaians have the largest stake in economic venture in the country. This reactionary response system we have is derailing our advancement” he noted.

Although Ghana’s trade laws seek to mitigate the entry of foreigners into prohibited sectors, there is formidable foreign interest activity in our oil and gas, mining, telecommunications, banking and processing sectors.
