With rains pounding Accra and other parts since Saturday amid recorded causalities, Acting National Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Brigadier General Francis Vib Sanziri says they have no mandate to stop persons who erect illegal structures on waterways.

Meanwhile Principal Meteorologist, Joe Tettey Portuphy has rendered that Ghana’s minor raining season has set in pointing out that the erratic rains are here for a while only to retreat in November.

He tasked citizens to stop dumping refuse in water channels, warning folks residing in low lying areas to relocate to preserve life.

He stated, Ghana is experiencing the ‘Lalina System’ where temperature anomalies on the ocean bring rain from the north to the south accompanied by strong winds and heavy rains.

Mr. Portuphy urged the district assemblies to pull down illegal structures on waterways to allow easy flow of rivers and rain water to limit havoc caused by floods.
