The Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Johnson Asiama has resigned.

A report by Citi Business News indicates that his resignation took effect on January 02, 2018. It also states that President Akufo-Addo has been informed of the resignation.

It is yet to be ascertained the reasons that may have led to the early resignation of Dr. Johnson Asiama.

However, some industry watchers believe this may be as a result of differences in ideology between the governing NPP and the former NDC government that appointed him.

Dr. Asiama in December 2017, dismissed reports of his resignation when the issue first came up.

At the time, he informed the press he was only on a ten-day leave.

Dr. Asiama was appointed on the 5th of April 2016 by ex-President, John Dramani Mahama.

He rose through the ranks after joining the bank in 1996 from Assistant Director, until his appointment as Deputy Governor.

He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University Of Southampton, United Kingdom, and an MPhil in Economics from the University of Ghana, Legon.
