Six people, including three students, died when a Ford Transit bus collided head-on with a KIA truck loaded with yams at the Akutuase Junction near Agogo in the Asante-Akim North District.

Eight others suffered deep cuts and broken bones and are receiving treatment at the Agogo Presbyterian Hospital.

The deceased students were identified as Evelyn Dwomoh, Herspe Appiah (both of the Agogo Presbyterian University College), and Blessing Cudjoe of the Agogo Presbyterian College of Education.

Police Superintendent Bossman Ohene Boadi, the Konongo Divisional Commander, who confirmed the tragedy said the remaining three including the driver of the Ford Transit bus were yet to be identified.

They were all travelling on the bus and the incident happened at about 8 pm on Monday.

The driver of the KIA truck heading towards Konongo was said to have attempted to overtake another vehicle and in the process collided with the bus, from the opposite direction.

Supt Ohene Boadi said they were making efforts to locate the driver and mate of the truck, who fled the scene after the crash, to assist in police investigation.
