A 30-year old former staff of Stanbic Bank, Wa Branch, Rahman Ahmed has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in hard labour for stealing ¢297, 000 through electronic transactions.

The sentence was given by a Wa Circuit court presided over by Baah Agyepong Forson.

According to the facts of the case as presented to the court, Rahman Ahmed between August 31 and September 2, 2016, at the Wa Branch of the Bank where he was an employee as a cashier stole the money in electronic mobile money form.

His shady deals were later revealed by officials of the bank who lodged a complaint with the police leading to his arrest and subsequently charged for stealing before the court.

It was gathered that he invested the stolen money in a kraal at Poyentanga, a community sixteen Kilometres away from the Wa township and used the rest on a lavish lifestyle.

Counsel for the accused Clement Eledi, prior to Ahmed's conviction, pleaded for mitigation sentence but the trial judge will not take any of that.
