EC boss awarded Woman of Courage by US gov't

The US Government through its ambassador to Ghana Robert Jackson has honoured the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana Charlotte Osei with the 2016 Woman of Courage award.

Robert Jackson at a brief ceremony at the US Embassy in Accra presented the award to Mrs. Osei.

The Woman of Courage Award is a scheme put together by the US government to annually award women who have showed great leadership skills and courage in promoting women's right

According to Mr. Jackson, the  EC Chair has shown bravery in the decisions she took before, during and after the 2016 general elections which cemented the country's democratic credentials. 

Receiving the award, Mrs.  Osei said inspite of all the challenges, obstacles, attacks and hurdles I have faced in my 6-year journey in public service, I still truly believe that it is a great honour and a privilege to serve one’s country. And it is a special privilege to serve in the capacity of the Chair of the Electoral Commission.

She expressed gratitude to the US government for recognising her effort in deepening Ghana's democracy.

“I truly am grateful for the honour and the privilege and I thank all of you who have been a part of my journey…in those trying moments, the values of truth, integrity, honesty, and fairness, which my parents instilled in me from my childhood kept me focused on delivering on my promise to the people of Ghana.”

She revealed she lost a lot of acquaintances, but she gained a lot of true friends. And for that, she recognises  that she is a very blessed person
