Government has been cited for a likely charge of contempt of parliament for the decision to suspend the implementation of reviewed Value Added Tax (VAT) rates.
The Finance Minister is expected to present documents relating to the issuance of a 2.25 billion dollar bond by government in April, to parliament on Wednesday.
This follows the invocation of a half hour motion last week by the Minority leader Haruna Iddrisu, summoning Ken Ofori Atta to appear before the house, to address allegations of conflict of interest raised by the minority.
They claim this could bring some finality to the controversy surrounding the process, which according to them has resulted in the loss of 5billion cedis to the state.
Some individuals of the opposition NDC have already petitioned the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice, CHRAJ, and the Security and Exchange Commission of the US, to investigate the circumstances under which over 95% of the bond was sold to Templeton Investments, a company with close ties to the Finance Minister.
The Attourney General last week responded on behalf of the Finance Ministry to a request from CHRAJ for information relating to the deal. The 16 page response among others said the Commission did not have the locus to investigate the issue.
Minority spokesperson on finance Ato Forson in an interview on JoyNews said he expects “the Finance Minister to present [in person]…information relating to the recent 2.25 billion US dollar bond.
The Minority in Parliament will go as far pushing for contempt charges against the Minister of Finance, if he fails to provide the House with all the documents on the 2.25 billion dollar bond issued by government in April.

Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, NDC believes it is up to the Electoral College to change the party’s leadership, not pronouncements by the founder.
Founder of the party, former President Jerry John Rawlings, has called for a total overhaul of the leadership of the largest opposition party.
Speaking at a durbar in the Upper West Regional Capital, Wa, to mark the 38th anniversary of the June 4 revolution, he said the party lost the 2016 elections because it had drifted far away from the founding principles of probity and accountability. Its current leaders are now more interested in enriching themselves to the detriment of the party.
Mr Rawlings warned until there is a change at the top of the NDC, the party would continue losing favour with the people “If we cannot get our claws off and allow for fresh leadership to emerge then we shall sink further,â€
Reacting to the comments on JoyFm, Koku Anyidoho accepted that the former president was entitled to his opinion on what he believed contributed to the loss in the 2016 elections.
When asked if the party’s current leadership, including himself is willing to step aside for a new hands, Mr Anyidoho answered that it is up to the Electoral College to make that decision. He however indicated his willingness to contest the Deputy General Secretary position at the next congress. A decision Mr Rawlings would most likely abhor.
The former Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah authorized the purchase of 43 new armoured vehicles for the presidency, two days before the formation of the transition team.
It has emerged that contrary to reports that President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo lost a bid to become ECOWAS Chairman to Togolese leader Faure Gnassingbe, there was actually no election at all.
Government has categorically denied that it requested the Mahama administration to order 43 armoured vehicles for the presidency, days before the NDC left power.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) risks sinking further if it does not get fresh leadership, founder of the party, former President Jerry John Rawlings has warned.
Former President J.J. Rawlings has warned the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to be wary of self-seeking leading members, whose sole aim is to enrich themselves to the detriment of the party.
