A pressure group in the Volta Region, Volta Youth for Development (VYD) is calling on all eight Colleges of Education and four Nurses Training Colleges in the Volta Region not to take the allowance restoration statement from President Mahama serious.
In a statement signed by the convener of the group, Innocent Tetteh, the group believes the president is doing this just to lure them to vote for him in the impending general election.
"Like the colour of the chameleon which is determined by the environmental factors it finds itself in, we believe the current decision of the President to restore the allowance is just to lure the students for their votes which is resulting out of his political opponent's promise to restore the allowance if they are voted into power, and so these trainees should make sure they don't fall for it."
Below is the press statement:
COLLEGE TRAINEES; DO NOT TAKE PRESIDENT MAHAMA SERIOUS, HE IS CONFUSED
The Volta Youth for Development (VYD) is urging all students in the eight Colleges of Education and the four Nurses Training Colleges in the Volta region not to take President Mahama serious with his recent promise made at the Brong Ahafo Region that he will restore the training college allowance that he cancelled some few years ago.
After the cancellation of the trainee allowance by this government, several reasons were given by them with some of them being;
A. They want to increase enrollment in the training colleges through the abolishment of the quota system.Â
 B. They do not see the need why trainees should be given allowance whiles their counterparts in the other institutions are on the Student Loan Trust.
Actually research has shown that this is the second time he has promised to restore the payment of this allowance after he failed on his first promise.
Note, President Mahama said in Cape Coast few weeks ago after he had promised to restore the allowance some few months ago that he will not restore the Training College allowance even if it will have to cost him the 2016 presidential election.
Just like how a drunk man acts confused, VYD is advising trainees in the Volta Region not to take the President serious because he is only in a state of confusion.
Like the color of the chameleon which is determined by the environmental factors it finds itself in, we believe the current decision of the President to restore the allowance is just to lure the students for their votes which is resulting out of his political opponent's promise to restore the allowance if they are voted into power, and so these trainees should make sure they don't fall for it.
Thank You
