MFWA Ex. Dir. aghast at abandoned e-learning centre at Twifo Praso

Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) Sulemana Braimah is aghast at what he believes to be an abandoned government e-learning centre located at the Twifo Praso in Central Region, which is rotting away.  The facility, commissioned by Dr. Omane Boamah, is one of similar projects initiated and executed by the previous National Democratic Congress government, but appears to have been left unused.’

The essence of e-learning is to allow people to learn for personal accomplishment or to earn a professional degree, without physically attending a traditional university or academic setting. E-learning can be applied for all levels of schooling from grade school to graduate degrees, and is versatile enough to accommodate all learning styles.

The concept is also to encourage the study of information technology across the country, empowering students from the lower to the high levels of the education ladder to be conversant with technology.

But Mr. Braimah in a post on Facebook was upset angry at the abandoned, questioning why a project running into thousands of dollars is not in used.

“This building was put up by the Ministry of Communication under Dr. Omane Boamah. It's at Twifo Praso. A plaque in front of it says it was commissioned by Dr. Omane Boamah in 2015 for enhanced e-governance,” he said.

According to him, since it construction, “it has not been opened, simply left to rot. Because it's government money. With the usually inflated cost of government contracts you can imagine how much of our money would have been used to put up this building. Why do we do this to ourselves as a nation?”

Meanwhile, there are reports similar projects across the country have been locked to the public.
