Nana Akomea, the director of communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has revealed that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will soon name him as the chief executive officer of a top state company.

Akomea's comment comes as his supporters within the NPP question he has still not received an appointment from Akufo-Addo despite his contribution to the party's electoral victory in 2020.

He had earlier announced over a month ago, that Akufo-Addo had offered him a job and that the appointment would be announced subsequently.

However, a delay in announcing the appointment has prompted his supporters to question whether he has been abandoned by the government.

But speaking on Accra-based Asempa FM, Akomea gave an assurance that his appointment was on the way.

He said the delay was due to the fact that some procedures must be followed in appointing a CEO to the institution he was being assigned to and that the president was going through that process to ensure he did not violate the law.

“I have told the president the position I want to occupy and he has agreed. There are laid down procedures for appointing a Chief Executive for that institution and so there is the need to follow the process so that the president will not violate the law.

“The president is going through the process. When he is done, he will make my appointment public”, he said.

Meanwhile, the former NPP general secretary, Kwadwo Owusu-Afriyie, aka Sir John, is another high-profile personality who has still not got an appointment in government.

The development has provoked outrage among his supporters, many of whom have threatened to demonstrate against what they say is an attempt by elements close to the seat of power to deny Sir John a well-deserved position.

According to them, the former general secretary was instrumental in Akufo-Addo's victory and ought to be rewarded for his efforts.

But Sir John has appealed to them not to demonstrate, stressing that Akufo-Addo does not like being pressured.
