The public spat between Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Otiko Afisa Djaba and the Northern Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) which has dominated the media within the week has come to an end but not without some casualties.

The spat which started last Friday following the disruption of a meeting  Ms Djaba was overseeing in Tamale by Mr Naabu.

The aftermath of the incident has been messy with both parties made damning allegations against each, a situation which embarrassed the party and led President Nana Akufo-Addo to intervene.

The party on Wednesday, May 10, held a national council meeting in which it dealt with the matter reprimanding the two by bonding the two to be of good behaviour.  They were as well made to apologise in writing to the party and the people of Ghana for their conduct.

Also, the meeting resolved, among other things, that all party executives whether elected or appointed who had accepted positions in government resign from their party positions.

This directive though could be taken as punishment for the Gender Minister who also holds the position of National Women Organiser of the party, it is turning out to be far-reaching than what readily come to mind.

A cursory look at the list of President Akufo-Addo's ministers indicates that about six of them would be affected by the directive.

Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, John Peter Amewu would have to step down as Volta Regional Chairman of the NPP while his Vice Chairman, Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, who is the Volta Regional Minister would also have to relinquish his party position.

Others including Ishmael Ashiettey; Kwaku Ansuma-Cheremeh; and Kwamena Duncan who are the ministers for the Greater Accra; Brong Ahafo and Central regions would have to leave their posts as Regional Chairman; Regional Chairman and Regional Secretary respectively.

Also, Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways, Anthony Karbo and Deputy Minister of Information, Perry Okudzeto are expected to leave their positions as deputy communication directors of the party with.

Another, deputy minister of Regional Re-Organisation, Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah would have to resign as the party's Director of Elections.

Newly appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the State Transport Company (STC) Nana Akomea who is the NPP's Communications Director is another casualty of the directive.

The party is expected to appoint substantive officers to fill in for the affected officers until its new ones are elected at the National Delegates Conference which is scheduled to take place between August 25-27 at the Cape Coast Stadium.
