The Electoral Commission (EC) boss, Mrs Jean Mensa has described the shooting incident that occurred at the La-Bawaleshie Presby JHS polling station during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election as ''unfortunate.''

According to reports, some men attacked some voters at the La-Bawaleshie Presby JHS polling station and fired gunshots, as the electorate voted.

Reacting to the shooting incident in an interview on Class FM monitored by PrimeNewsGhana, Mrs Jean Mensa said:

“It’s unfortunate because this is just a by-election. You don’t expect to have violence in a by-election''.

She added that ,“It’s just a simple exercise where members of the public go to cast their vote and to exercise their franchise to elect those they will like to lead them, so, it’s not an exercise that should bring about conflict and violence, it’s unfortunate but we believe the police are in control.”

Meanwhile, the NDC has pulled out of the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election following shootings at the La Baweleshie Presby polling station.

Chairman of the NDC, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo in a press briefing said the party have lost confidence in the security agencies following the shootings which resulted in the death of one person.

According to him, he suspected the shooters to be NPP members who have been tasked to intimidate NDC members.

He further called on all party members to restrain from voting and asked the polling agents to converge at the party headquarters for further instructions.
