The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will leave the country on Tuesday, June 20 for a five-day working visit to China. The visit is upon the invitation of the Vice President of China, Li Yuanchao.

This will be the first official visit by a Ghanaian leader to China since the New Patriotic Party, (NPP) government assumed office in January this year.

A statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry said the Vice President will hold talks with his Chinese counterpart as well as the Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Yu Zhengsheng.

Dr. Bawumia’s visit to China comes at the time of growing concern about the involvement of Chinese in illegal mining, popularly known as "Galamsey" in the country.
