A mini rally of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) scheduled to be held at the Dambai College of Education in the Northern Region was nearly called off on Monday after the school's authorities revoked their permission at the eleventh hour citing orders from above.

According to the National Youth Organiser of the NPP, Sammi Awuku, who disclosed this on Peace FM, the party had written to the school authorities and received no objection  to the rally so "we are shocked as to why they will refuse us at the last minute".

The programme which was part of a tour by the party's Vice-Presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, was however moved to a nearby park after some of the students erected canopies there.

After realising that the students were hell bent on listening to Dr Bawumia, the authorities decided to share gari to students after their lunch in order to delay the commencement of the programme but the students defied them and trooped to the new venue.

He blamed the government for giving such orders, saying, " these are the machinations of a losing government".

"They shouldn't forget that when President Mahama was campaigning in 2008 as the Vice Presidential candidate of the NDC, he was given unfettered access to all Colleges of Education including Dambai where he campaigned twice", he added.
