The Deputy Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region, Solomon Anane has alleged that the actions of some Electoral Commission (EC) officials in the region are deliberate attempt to disenfranchise some members of the NDC in the region.

In an interview with primenewsghana, Mr. Anane said “individuals with Northern and Ewes names are always asked to go and bring their tenancy agreement, light bill and water bill before they can get verified" while people with Akan names surprisingly got verified with no impediment.
According to him, the EC officials were doing so because they knew the said individuals would not come back due to the distance
He also accused the EC of transferring only the votes of only 60 people out of the 3,000 requests it received.
Below is a copy of a press statement released on the matter:
THE ELECTORAL  COMMISSION MUST STOP FRUSTRATING EWES AND NORTHERNERS IN THE THE ONGOING VOTE TRANSFER EXERCISE IN THE ASHANTI REGION
It has come to the attention of the NDC in the Ashanti Region that the opposition New Patriotic Party, in connivance with some unscrupulous officials of the electoral commission, are desperately scheming to  disenfranchise  some legitimate voters of the Northern and Volta extractions in the upcoming 2016 general elections.
These clandestine moves are being perpetuated to illegitimately, disallow  voters, particularly of the above ethnic extractions in Ahafo Ano south and North districts in particular and the Ashanti Region as à from exercising their inalienable right to vote.
The residents in these farming communities who bear northern as well as ewe names are being frustrated from effecting  the transfer of the  votes as the law permits.  We wish to send an unfriendly caution to the conspiritors of these nefarious acts that the NDC shall, unreservedly, rise to stop any further attempts to disenfranchise these ethnic groups in the region. We are committed to the rule of law.
It would be recalled that, recently, the Ashanti Regional  Chairman of the NPP,Benard Antwi  Bosiako(Wontumi) issued a public statement indicating that,he was going to rig this year's elections in the region. One is therefore,  left with no any other option but to come to a  firm conclusion that, this is the start of their rigging processes as defeat stares them  glaringly.
Long live Ghana,
Long live the NDC
