Since the Electoral Commission (EC) opened the gate for presidential and parliamentary forms to be picked on Monday, September 3, 2016 and submitted on September 30, 22 parties and individuals have so far picked nomination forms.
15 political parties and 7 independent presidential aspirants have secured their forms including the United Development System Party (UDSP), the People’s National Convention (PNC), the United Love Party (ULP), National Democratic Congress (NDC), the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), the National Democratic Party (NDP), Independent People’s Party (IPP), the United Progressive Party (UPP), the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), the United Front Party (UFP), Democratic People’s Party (DPP), All People’s Congress (APC), Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP) and the Reformed Patriotic Democrats (RPD).
Jacob Osei Yeboah, Kwaku Antwi Owusu, Lawrence Yamil Nketia, Kwame Asiedu Walker, Chief Dr. Yaw Kumi, John Alex Hamah and Major Ibrahim Rida (rtd) make up the independent presidential candidates number.

Presidential candidates are to pay a filing fee of GHS50,000 while parliamentary candidates will pay GHS10,000.
