The General Secretary of the NDC, Asiedu Nketia has asked President Akufo-Addo to start the fight against vigilantism from the National Security by removing the alleged vigilante group members from the security apparatus.

According to Asiedu Nketia, the President has actively participated in recruiting vigilante group members into the National Security, therefore, he cannot take himself out of the menace by asking NPP and NDC to meet and find a lasting solution to the problem.

President Akufo-Addo during the State of the Nation Address on Thursday called on the two main political parties in the country to meet by next week and find a solution to the various activities of political thugs in the country.

''I want to use this platform of this message to make a sincere passionate appeal to the leaders of the two main political parties in our country NPP and NDC to come together as soon as possible, preferably next week to agree on appropriate measures to bring an end to this unacceptable phenomenon of vigilantism in our body of politics''.

He added that: ''I have asked the leadership of the NPP to extend an invitation to the leaders of the NDC for such a meeting, the security services of the country will be on standby to assist this meeting. If political disbandment by the parties is not feasible then I will initiate legislation in the matter''.

According to him, vigorous debates and the exchange of ideas should be the true basis of political dialogue and competition in our country not the activities of party vigilante groups.

Reacting to the call by the President on Citi FM, Asiedu Nketia said he does not get the impression that the President is committed to what he said.

"I don't get that impression at all, the impression I get is that here we are with the President who actively participated in recruiting and training of vigilante groups trained with state facilities, armed with state resources and are moving around in state vehicles. In effect embedding his own party vigilante into the state security and now distances himself from the problem and he is now calling on powerless political parties to go and meet and find a solution."

"vigilantism has done so much harm and there is enough evidence for state security to take action and state security is dragging their feet, some of them claiming openly that their hands are tied behind them by government, instead of calling the meeting of two political parties to talk about vigilantism, he should act, and allow the state institutions to also act and it must begin from the President taking action to cleanse the state security institutions of these vigilante elements," Asiedu Nketia added

Justifying his statement of vigilante group members infiltrating the National Security apparatus Asiedu Nketia said: "The evidence is unfolding at the Ayawaso Commission of Inquiry, there is ample evidence there people have come to claim that they don't know the group that came there, others are saying they are civilians."
