Former President John Mahama has saluted Ghanaians on the occasion of the 60th Independence Anniversary celebrations.

Ghana gained its independence on March 6, 1957, becoming the first nation south of the Sahara Desert to do so.

Climaxing activities marking the anniversary which is simply referred to as Ghana @ 60, a march-past ceremony featuring the country's security services and students is currently underway at the Black Star Square which is expected to be graced by these leaders.

In a tweet on Monday, the former President who oversaw four of such independence parades urged Ghanaians to dedicate themselves to make the next 60 years even better.

“I salute all Ghanaians. Let’s dedicate ourselves, on this occasion, to make the next 60years even better. #Ghana #AfricaRising #AHappyPeople".
