Government as part of efforts to empower persons living with disability in the country has indicated that, a significant amount of contracts will be given to companies that have people living with disability as employees.

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia said, about 70% of government contracts would be allocated to Ghanaian companies that engage persons with disability.

He was speaking at a career fair organised by the Ghana Federation of Disability Organizations in Accra.

According to the Vice President, the move is in affirmation of government's commitment to persons living with disability in the country.

Government, he said would ensure that persons living with disability are given the necessary support to live a comfortable life in society.

"It is important for us to give priority to Ghanaian businesses that employ persons with disability in the award of contracts,"he stated.

This would encourage other companies to look beyond the physical appearance of job seekers and consider what they could offer whether disabled or not.

The Career Fair is aimed as providing job opportunities, empowering as well as encouraging persons with disabilities to be gainfully employed.
