Former Chief of Staff, Nana Ato Dadzie says it is a miracle that former President Jerry John Rawlings has lived up to this time.
According to him, the enigmatic nature of the former President meant he had admirers and haters in equal measure, making him the subject of several assassination attempts and it beats his imagination that he [Mr Rawlings] has lived on till date.
"During our tenure, I don't think that there would have been less than 70 physical attempts to eliminate him or overthrow his government but somehow we managed to survive", he revealed.Â
Speaking in an interview on Joy FM's Super Morning Show to honour Mr Rawlings as part of his 70th birthday celebration, Nana Ato Dadzie who worked as a Secretary to the PNDC and later as a Chief of Staff to the then President Rawlings said though his former boss "was very much aware" of the efforts by his haters to eliminate him, he was not bothered.
For him, every historic person is a controversial person and Mr Rawlings is no exception and "it is what makes him a great guy".
Underlying his tough and strict public image, Nana Ato Dadzie revealed, is a humorous and lighthearted fellow who cracked jokes and sang for his subordinates.
"If you ever meet Rawlings, he's a wonderful man; full of jokes and humour and music. Rawlings is a light-hearted fellow and I never saw him as the bully that others touted him to be", he stated.
