Contrary to claims by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), President John Mahama's administration is very committed to the fight against corruption, Mrs Joyce Bawa Mogtari, Spokesperson for the ruling National Democratic Congres' (NDC) 2016 campaign has stated.

President Mahama's has had its fair share corruption scandals and the NPP has at the very least opportunity castigated him for not being committed enough to dealing with the canker.

Their flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo has on numerous occasions reiterated that he [Akufo-Addo] was not corrupt and had come into politics to enrich himself.

In an interview on Metro TV's Good Evening Ghana earlier in September, President Mahama stated that he Akufo-Addo's claims were direct attacks on him.

"For four years he [Akufo-Addo] has described me as incompetent, for four years he’s described me as visionless, for four years he’s described me as a thief. He says when I come to power I won’t steal your money what does that mean? It means I am stealing Ghanaians’ money”, he told host Paul Adom Otchere.

But according to the Campaign Spokesperson, "at any given time, this government is one that had done a lot to stem corruption".

Speaking to on Joy FM's Super Morning Show Monday, she said the fact that "a minister [Dzifa Attivor]; one of the most influential, lost her job as a result of the bus branding saga" was a clear indication that the administration was not shielding corruption.

On allegations by Nana Addo's running mate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia at his Septemeber 8, lecture on the economy that the government over-reliance on sole sourcing smacked of corruption, Mrs Bawa-Mogtari argued that, "with the exception of the  case of the bus branding, all of our systems [on sole sourcing] are working" and "there was a rationale under which the bus branding job was sole sourced".

"Sole sourcing is not necessarily a crime. There is room in the law for sole sourcing", she added.
