The agitation of some youth of NPP for the appointment of Hajia Ayishetu Seidu as Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Savelugu-Nanton to be revoked has received a endorsement from the Member of Parliament (MP) for Savelugu, one of the two constituencies in the municipality.

According to the MP, Muhammed Abdul-Samed Gunu, the embattled MCE is not known to the party in the area.

Three persons were injured on Thursday in a clash involving the Police and some of the agitating NPP youth who had locked up the offices of the Municipal Assembly to prevent Hajia Seidu from working because she had never played any part in the party's campaigns over the years.

Considering that the new MCE won 50 votes (78 percent) out of the 64 ballots cast at the poll to confirm her nomination, the actions of the youth have been widely condemned.

But the Savelugu MP has backed the youth's claim saying “politically, she is not known to us. I cannot tell how she was shortlisted and subsequently nominated. I think the Regional Chairman of the party Daniel Bugri Naabu is the best person to answer this question".

Prior to her appointment, he observes, Hajia Seidu had neither associated with the party nor made contributions both in cash and kind to the party as expected of persons who are interested in such positions.

“I do not see her as an NPP member because she has never been seen in the area. If you have an intention of holding a position when there is a political activity you show up but throughout my campaign prior to the 2016 elections, I did not see her or any of her assignees. It is possible she can be a member of the party but I do not think she is known to us in Savelugu”, he told Accra-based Okay FM.

He, however, promised to contribute his quota to ensure that peace prevails since it is the prerogative of the president to determine who represents him in the area in accordance with the constitution.
