Two EC officers sacked for taking voter exhibition to Bawumia's home

Vice Presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia did not go through the usual process to get verified in the ongoing voter exhibition exercise, it has emerged.

According to reports, Dr Bawumia, instead of going to his polling station get verified, was on Wednesday, July 27, visited by two officers of the Electoral Commission (EC) with EC materials at his Walewale residence to verify him.

The officers, Yubi Ambrose an exhibition officer and Mumuni Latifa a verification officer, who allegedly acted on the orders of a top EC officer have also been accused of taking GHC 10,000 bribe to breach the electoral laws and have subsequently been sacked.

Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the district held a press conference and disclosed the matter on Friday which prompted the swift action from the commission.

According to the deputy regional director of the EC, Benjamin Bamubio, commission sacked the two officers after the issue was brought to their knowledge and they were interrogated.
