The Deputy  General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Koku Anyidoho says President Akufo Addo will not be allowed to alter the history of Ghana.

According to him, changing Founder's Day from September 21 to a proposed date of August 4 is an attempt by the New Patriotic Party government to rewrite Ghana's history.

Addressing NDC supporters and sympathisers at the Kwame Nkrumah Museum in Accra on September 21 after the party's unity walk, Koku Anyidoho said the NDC will resist the subtle attempts to alter the history of Ghana.

A statement from the Presidency proposed August 4, as “obviously the most appropriate day to signify our recognition and appreciation of the collective efforts of our forebears towards the founding of a free, independent Ghana.”

According to the statement, August 4 is noted as the date for the formation of the Aborigines’ Rights Protection Society by John Mensah Sarbah in 1897 as well as the formation of the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC) in 1947 by J.B. Danquah and George Alfred “Paa” Grant.

The statement said 21st September will rather be celebrated as Kwame Nkrumah Memorial day.

This did not go down well with some Nkrumahist who believe the proposed change was to distort the history of the country and to give prominence to J.B Danquah.
