The Volta Regional branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) executive elections which was scheduled to take place on Saturday April 21, 2018 has suffered a set- back due to a court injunction.

A disqualified Regional Chairman hopeful, one Kofi Boateng, on Friday secured an injunction the elections claiming he was disqualified unfairly.

The party was scheduled to hold its regional elections in Hohoe but it would have to wait for not less than 10-days to decide the way forward.

Nelson Kuma Oye who is the campaign attaché for Mr. Boateng addressing the media on proceedings at a Ho High Court which culminated in the injunction said “yesterday [Thursday], the court adjourned the case and gave us an order to serve the defendant and we did that, and when they mentioned the case this [Friday] morning, they were not in court so the court granted the injunction stopping them for 10 days. The judge made them know that if they go ahead, they will face the consequences. So that was the ruling this morning,” he said.

Nelson Kuma Oye said “there are some cabals in the region who feel they don’t want the quality people [like Kofi Boateng] to lead this party”.

The remaining candidates vying for the chairmanship are a former Volta Regional Manager of Ghana Telecom, Douglas Kirk Wagba; the Regional Organizer, Makafui Kofi Woanyah; a financier of the party, David Agubiga; a private legal practitioner, Ken Anku, and a party activist, Rev. Johnson Avuletey.

It would be recalled that, on Monday, March 26, 2018, all the six aspirants went through the vetting process successfully at the headquarters in Accra.

But early in April, Mr. Boateng, the immediate past regional Secretary, was disqualified.

The regional chairmanship position became vacant after the elevation of the former Chairman, John Peter Amewu, to a ministerial position, Minister for Lands and Natural Resources.
