Campaign Coordinator of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams has stated that the party is not bothered by the GHC 50,000 being charged by the Electoral Commission (EC) as filing fees for presidential candidates in the upcoming general elections.

According to him, the amount must not trouble parties if they indeed thought they would win

"We are not worried by the amount because we are sure President John Mahama will win and the amount will be returned to us. It's just a deposit, we will get it back later", he added.

Speaking on Joy FM Wednesday evening, he wondered why there is so much noise about the amount when parties have been charging more at their presidential primaries.

"Some parties even charge more than what the EC is charging so what is the noise about?", he retorted.

"The setting of the filing fees was an administrative matter for the Commission which parties must leave to them", he advised.

On the payment of the GHC10,000 filing fees for the NDC's parliamentary candidates, Mr Adams refused to confirm or deny support form the party's headquatres and stated that the party has always had a mechanism in place to cater for such issues.

However, National Organiser and acting General Secretary of the John Boadu thinks that it is unnecessary for the EC to charge such huge amounts because unlike political party primaries where the elections are all but organised with the filing fees of candidates, the general election is being sponsored by the state.

Per the EC's regulations, presidential candidates who garner 25 percent of votes will have their filing fees returned to them while parliamentary candidates with 12.5% of votes will get their filing fees back.
