The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has stated that they have fulfilled over 80 percent of the 540 promises contained in their 2012 manifesto.

Ahead of its launch on Saturday in Sunyani, Brong Ahafo Regional capital, President John Mahama on Tuesday at the Banquet Hall of the State House presented highlights of the party's 2016 manifesto which he said would move Ghana closer to “prosperity and security”.

According to him, although his administration had been confronted with daunting challenges, it had been able to achieve significant success which will propel Ghana to new heights in his second term.

But the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) at a press conference on Wednesday disagreed with President Mahama saying he failed to fulfil his 2012 promises and was only repeating promises he had previously made in the 2016 manifesto.

However, according to the NDC's Director of Research, Dr William Ahadzi, the NPP's claims cannot be correct since President Mahama has already fulfilled over 80 percent of the promises in the party's 2012 manifesto.

Speaking to Joy FM's Kojo Yankah Thursday morning, Dr Ahadzi said "we have fulfilled 80 to 85 percent of the 2012 manifesto promises and have even gone beyond what we promised in some cases".

This success rate, he said, was against the backdrop that the first eight months of President Mahama's administration was spent at the Supreme Court litigating his eligibility.

"We've done a better part of what we put together. Had it not been that we spent the first eight months in court, we could have done more", he added.
