Managing Editor of the New Crusading Guide, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako has encouraged President John Mahama to contest in the 2020 presidential elections.

According to him, Mr Mahama was still the best candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) despite his crushing defeat in last Wednesday's polls which gave him the unenviable record as the first one-term president since the start of the Fourth Republic in 1993.

The Electoral Commission (EC) on Friday evening declared the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo President-elect after he polled 53.85 percent of the total votes to defeat President Mahama who had 44.40 percent.

In real terms, President Mahama lost by over one million votes while his party lost close to 50 of its parliamentary seats to the NPP.

But speaking on Joy FM's Newsfile show on Saturday, Mr Baako maintained, "he will be the best ticket for the NDC in 2020".

For him, there was nobody in the NDC who could contest Mr Mahama for the position flagbearer should he decide to compete.

“If he decides to compete, there is nobody who can compete with him,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister for Energy, John Jinapor, on the same programme, hinted of possible run by Mr Mahama saying his [Mahama] preoccupation now was to reorganise the NDC for the next general elections.
