Namibia Football Association has withdrawn their Under-23 team from the ongoing 2019 CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers due to financial problems.

The Namibians were set to travel to the Central African nation on Thursday, November 16 before hosting them four days later, however, that will not happen.

The FA’s Secretary General, Barry Rukoro, confirmed in a statement to CAF requesting the withdrawal.

“We simply don’t have funds to take the team to Angola and it is a very sad situation. As you could see the boys were looking forward to this campaign but now it’s all over for them,” the SG stated

Priority

Rukoro said that the FA had limited funds and were prioritizing their senior men’s national team’s 2019 AFCON qualifier against Guinea Bissau this weekend.

“The money we have now have to be used for the Brave Warriors for this weekend’ game against Guinea Bissau and so the junior teams are feeling the pinch,” explains Secretary General Barry Rukoro.

Their senior team, the Brave Warriors, sit joint top of Group K with Guinea Bissau on seven points. They host the game at Windhoek on Saturday.
