Akufo-Addo 'saddened' by Coach Arday's death

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said he is saddened by the death of Coach Sam Arday.

“Saddened by the news of the death of Sam Arday. Undoubtedly, one of the most brilliant coaches Ghana has produced. My condolences to his family, and may his soul rest in perfect peace", he tweeted.



Coach Arday who passed away on Sunday at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital aged 71, was the first black man to win an Olympic medal in football when he led Ghana's U23 team to pick bronze at the 1992 Games in Barcelona.

He won the 1995 FIFA U17 World Cup in Ecuador and had two stints as coach of the senior national team, Black Stars.

Locally, he handled giants Asante Kotoko, Hearts of Oak, and Okwahu United.
