Benin have been disqualified from the WAFU U17 AFCON qualifiers after a large number of their players failed MRI test.

Ten out of the 18 players of the Benin U17 side failed the mandatory MRI test conducted by CAF hence their disqualification.

Nigeria, Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso each, also suffered disqualification of their two players.

Ghana had no issue with the MRI test as all 18 players successfully passed the test.

The zonal tournament is a new format adopted by CAF to qualify countries for the U17 Africa Cup competitions.

This means only six teams will compete in the tourney, namely Niger, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Togo.
