2019 Budget: Government to spend 2.5 million on sports infrastructure

Following the reading of the 2019 Budget and Financial Statement by the Finance Minister, it has emerged that the budgetary allocation for the Ministry of Youth and Sports for the 2019 year will be $2.5 million.

Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta during the presentation of 2019 budget statement and economic policy to Parliament on Thursday, November 15, revealed that the $2.5 million fund will be used to improve sports development in Ghana.

On the sporting side, the budget stated that Ghana would be hosting a number of international competitions such as Confederation of African Football Women’s Nations Cup(AWCON 2018) and have also won the bid to host 2023 All African Games.

Other activities the budget captured were the renovation of Accra Sports Stadium after a decade of neglect.

Hon. Ofori Atta also stated that government has additionally invested in 10 youth and sports centres of excellence in each of the 10 regions of Ghana which are at various stages of completion.
