Cycling President set to contest for GOC position

President of the Ghana Cycling Federation(GCF) Mohammed Sahnoon has picked his form to contest for the position of the General Secretary of the Ghana Olympic Committee when the elections come off on March 15 in Accra.

Spokesperson of the GCF, Mr. Dennis Moore picked the form on behalf of Sahnoon at the offices of the GOC in Accra on Wednesday.

According to the Cycling boss, he intends to use his rich experience in sports administration to assist in the growth of sports in the country.

He added that, the GOC needs to be vibrant and work towards ensuring that Ghana participates in international competitions and also win medals.

“We need to work together to promote sports in the country and I believe that it is about time to take the GOC to a different level,” he stated.

He hopes to emerge victorious on March 15 to take over from Richard Akpokavie urging all stakeholders to come on board to support the GOC undertake its constitutional mandate.

Sahnoon became the President of the GCF in 2010 after he was elected into office unopposed in 2010 and has gained international recognition in 2014 for his exploits with the federation.

He was elected onto the International Cycling Union(UCI) Arbitral Board and Disciplinary Commission and remains the only Ghanaian on that board.

The Legal Practitioner was also part of the team that ensured that the GOC constitution was applied to ensure transparent elections.

Very astute sports administrators in the country would on March 15 contest for various positions under the GOC including Ben Nonoo Mensah who would be heading for the Presidency.
