Africa is now in the right position to win its first ever World Cup at the senior level after visiting FIFA President, Gianni Infantino has announced that Africa will get more than seven slots when the World Cup is expanded in 2026.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra, he said, “African representation will definitely be more than seven. But working on the precise number.”

That would give the opportunity to many African countries to participate and possibly win the competition.

No African country has ever won the World Cup and currently, the continent has only five slots. The closest an African team got to the title was the quarter finals.

Mr. Infantino disclosed that, FIFA would increase its investment in African football from $27 million to $94million per year to help develop the sport.

He added that, they would however ensure transparency among all countries under the federation by demanding that all monies given to them are adequately accounted for by the local federations.

He added that, monies that are not properly accounted for or used shall be returned to FIFA for other purposes.

The FIFA boss was in the country for a day working visit and paid a courtesy call on President Nana Akufo-Addo and had meetings with other football stakeholders.
