Senegal won two of their opening matches in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Gabon to qualify to the next stage of the competition with a game to spare.

Ghana must follow the steps of Senegal as they come against Mali today in their second group game. A win will send Ghana to the last eight of the competition with a game to go.

Ghana would face arguably a tougher opposition (Egypt) in their next game and it would be prudent to secure qualification ahead of that game.

Mali however would not be a walk-over opposition as they also have eyes on the three points following their draw in the first game.

They held the seven-time champions to a goalless draw and created better chances in the game except they were denied a goal.

Ghana however must ensure that they improve upon their game in order to go pass Mali despite the absence of left back Baba Rahman.

The player was ruled out of the tournament after he got injured in the first game against Uganda and would stay off the field for over three months.

Avram Grant introduced Frank Acheampong at left back as Baba’s replacement and might be used in the game against Mali.

Another upset for the Stars would be Andre Ayew who reported ill in camp on Friday and doubted to start the game against Mali.

Though he has not been ruled out of the match, the player might be at the sidelines as precautionary measures.

Ghana must find the back of the net in open play as they only scored through penalty in their first game with the likes of Jordan Ayew and skipper Asamoah Gyan leading the attack.

It promises to be a tough game for Ghana but fans are hoping they get another win which would put their trophy hopes on the right path.
