The Black Meteors of Ghana are set to square off against the Sparrow Hawks of Togo for a place at the U-23 AFCON in 2019 in Egypt.

Ghana is set to face Togo in a two-legged affair in November for a place in the second round.

Ghana will host the first leg of the first qualifying round between 12-20 November 2018.

The winner of the two-legged tie will face Gabon in the second qualifying round to be played between 18-26 March 2019.

The winner will join 14 other teams into the second round, which already has 13 countries, who drew a bye for the first round, waiting for matches in March next year.

The 14 teams that make it through the second round would be paired for home and away matches in June 2019, with the seven winners joining hosts Egypt for the final tournament, which runs between November 8-22 in 2019.

The tournament will determine which three African teams will compete at the 2020 Summer Olympics men’s football tournament in Tokyo.

Ghana has not made it to the U-23 AFCON, Africa's new qualifying format for the Olympics, since its inception in 2011.

The Black Meteors' last appearance at the Olympics, though, was in Athens 2004, where they exited after the group stage.
