Ghana Wheelchair Basketball Federation set to demonstrate

Para Athletes and the Ghana Wheelchair Basketball Federation are set to demonstrate against what they termed as 'unfair treatment and discrimination towards Para Sports' by the Hon Minister of Youth and Sports on Monday, June 25, 2018.

A statement signed by the National Spokesperson for the Ghana Wheelchair Basketball Federation, Alfred Quarshie, said "the Ministry refused  to support a budget of GHS52,000.00 for a top four championship by the Federation which is to take place at Ho , this June for four days alongside national training cause for coach".

The statement said "the Ministry last year advice the federation to focus on local events and this is the first major local event of the federation for this year".

We the players of the Ghana Wheelchair Basketball Federation from the ten ( 10 ) Regions of Ghana by this release extending an invitation to all Para Athletes in Ghana and friends of  Para Sports to join our demonstration on Monday 25th June 2018 .

Purpose for the Massive Demonstration: 

i. Unfair treatment and discrimination towards Para Sports by the Hon Minister of Youth and Sports 

ii. Deceit by the Sports Ministry which has landed the GWBF into a Fine by the IWBF with reference to the late withdrawal from the 2018 African Championship in South Africa.

iii. The Ministry refusal to support a budget of GHS52,000.00 for a top four championship by the Federation which is to take place at Ho, this June for four days alongside National training cause for coach, after the Ministry last year advice the federation to focus on local events and this is the first major local event of the federation for this year.

iv. Deliberate attempt by the Ministry to remove blind goal ball from this years Ghana National Games.

Time : 6 am 

Venue for Assembly : Accra National Rehabilitation Centre

Attire : All Red or Black with Red bands .

Notice : Players from other regions will arrive Sunday evening and will lodge at the Accra National Rehabilitation Centre .

Placards and other logistics for the Massive Demonstration to the Jubilee House will be share on Monday morning .

We are also calling on all media house to join us and cover this historic national demonstration.
