Black Stars skipper Asamoah Gyan has revealed the reason why he was left on the bench against Ethiopia in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nation Qualifier.

Jordan Ayew's brace in the first half was enough to see off the Walias in Addis Ababa on over the weekend.

However, the Ghana skipper did not even make a cameo in the game as he was left on the bench throughout the game.

Black Stars tactician, Kwesi Appiah made a couple of changes notably bringing on two defensive minded players in order to keep the results intact.

Gyan told Angel FM that tactical reasons relegated him to the bench against the Walias.

“Its [substitution] was based on tactical reason as you could see that it got to a point where we were under pressure and so at that particular point."

"We needed a midfielder and defender and that’s why we saw Afriyie Acquah and Jonathan Mensah being introduced into the game just to keep the result intact because the pressure was becoming unbearable on us,”

This win takes Ghana to second in Group F with six points, superseded by Kenya with 7 points.
