Former Liverpool star El Hadji Diouf has made a sensational claim about his move to Merseyside claiming it was the wrong decision for his career.
Diouf joined The Reds in 2002 from Ligue 1 outfit Lens after impressing at the World Cup in the same year, spending two seasons there before joining Bolton on loan and eventually making his move permanent a year later.
And now, the 37-year-old Senegalese has revealed he regrets joining Liverpool considering he had other offers from the likes of Manchester United and Barcelona at that time.
In an interview with a French publication, Diouf said: “I can say today that the shirt that I regret wearing the most was Liverpool’s because if I were to do that part of my career again, I would have gone to FC Barcelona or Manchester United.
“At the time, they wanted me too.”
The Dakar-born forward made over 80 appearances for Liverpool, scoring six goals in the process although his time at Merseyside was marred by incidences of indiscipline.
