Despite facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after picking up an injury, Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has tied down his future at the club by penning a new five and a half year contract that runs till 2024.
Gomez fractured his leg in the 3-1 win over Burnley last week after a tackle from Ben Mee and is set to be out for the rest of the year. The England international has excelled this season in the centre back role, partnering with Virgil Van Dijk and have been responsible for conceding the least amount of goals(6). Gomez joined Liverpool back in 2015 from Charlton Athletic for a fee reported to be in the region of £3.5M.Â
