Asante Kotoko legend, Rev. Osei Kofi believes his former side are competent enough to edge out imminent opponent Kariobangi Sharks in the first round of Caf Confederation Cup.

The Kenyan outfit thrashed Djibouti outfit ARTA Solar 6-1 in the first leg of the preliminary fixture last week and are likely to progress to the next stage to meet Kotoko. Sharks also beat  Gor Mahia to lift the Kenya Super Cup on Sunday.

Speaking to the media, the former Black Stars goal poacher said Kotoko have the men to battle other clubs in the Confederation Cup starting this month.

"From all indications, Kariobangi Sharks are a very good side but that doesn't mean they will eliminate Kotoko," Osei told Goal.

"Previously, clubs like Sharks would fear to even come to Kumasi to face Kotoko but times have changed since our recent performances haven't been the best. However, I'm optimistic Kotoko will put them at their rightful place.

"Although there is no club football ongoing here in the country due to some people's greediness, I still believe Kotoko have the men to qualify. What they need to do is to intensify their preparations since the high altitude in Kenya can affect them somehow.

"With good preparation and teamwork, I don't see how Kotoko will be eliminated by Sharks. In fact, they can do well in Africa this time," he added.
