Floyd Mayweather has thrown down the gauntlet to Cornor McGregor after appearing to accept his challenge to wear lighter gloves for their multi-million pound fight.

The pair are supposed to be wearing 10oz gloves, as is standard for a super welterweight bout. Lower divisions tend to use 8oz as regulation.

McGregor complained during the four international press conferences that Mayweather had held him to certain stipulations over the makes of glove he could wear, riled by the power the American has held over the terms of their forthcoming bout.

However it appears the 40-year-old is ready to cede some advantage to his Irish counterpart after announcing on Instagram that he was happy to proceed with the smaller gloves, forgoing the extra protection afforded by the heavier gloves.

'Don't believe what you hear in the media. Don't believe what you hear on blog sites,' he wrote on his Instagram account.

'If it's not coming directly from me, then it's not true. I'm telling McGregor, "Let's fight in 8 oz gloves".

'McGregor can fight in any brand he prefers or chooses. I'll be wearing 8 oz Grant gloves.

'Whatever advantage McGregor needs to feel more comfortable in the ring, I'm willing to accommodate.

'Let's give the boxing and MMA fans what they want to see.'

Mayweather and McGregor are set to go head-to-head at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on August 26.
